How to use
- Step 1Enter the two team names and pick their colors. Start the period clock; it counts down from 20 minutes by default.
- Step 2Tap +1 Goal for each goal and the SOG button for every shot on goal. Add a penalty with one tap: 2, 4, 5 or 10 minutes, with the player number if you like.
- Step 3Share the view link with the bench, the stands or a stream overlay. The penalty clocks and the power-play sign update live for everyone.
How hockey is scored
A goal is one point, no matter how it is scored. Games run three periods of 20 minutes of stop time in professional and college hockey; youth leagues commonly play 12-, 15- or 17-minute periods, which you can set on this board. Ties are broken by overtime, and in many leagues by a shootout after that.
Penalties remove a player for a fixed time: 2 minutes for a minor, 4 for a double minor, 5 for a major and 10 for a misconduct. A minor penalty ends early if the opposing team scores while on the power play, which is why the board lets you remove any penalty with one tap.
What this scoreboard tracks
- Goals, the period clock and the current period, with overtime periods added automatically.
- Shots on goal per team, the number every hockey scoreboard shows next to the score.
- Penalty timers per team that run only while the game clock runs, carry into the next period and disappear when they expire. When one team has more players in the box, the display shows PP for the other team.
- Timeouts remaining (one per team in most rule sets) and a horn on the controlling device at the end of the period.
Penalty clocks explained
Penalty time is measured by the game clock, not by the wall clock. When play stops, the penalty stops. This board anchors every penalty to the game clock reading, so pausing, nudging or resetting the clock keeps the penalties correct.
A penalty that has not expired at the end of a period continues in the next period. If a minor penalty should end early after a power-play goal, tap the penalty to remove it.
Questions and answers
Do the penalty timers stop when I stop the game clock?
Yes. Penalties run only while the game clock runs, exactly as in the rink. They also carry over into the next period if time remains.
Can I change the period length for a youth game?
Yes. Open the settings and choose 12, 15, 17 or 20 minutes; overtime length can be set separately.
How do I show the power play?
You do not have to do anything. When one team has more skaters in the penalty box than the other, the display marks the other team with PP until the penalty ends or is removed.
Can the stands see the score on their phones?
Share the view link or show the QR code on a screen. Anyone who opens it sees the clock, score, shots and penalties update live; they cannot change anything.
